WOFBEC 2027: Pastor Poju Oyemade Announces “Holy Spirit: The River of Life”
Pastor Poju Oyemade, Senior Pastor of The Covenant Nation, has announced the 2027 edition of the World of Faith Believers’ Convention (WOFBEC). It will run from January 2 to 10, 2027, in Lagos, Nigeria, under the theme “Holy Spirit: The River of Life.”
The Story Behind WOFBEC
Nigeria is home to some of the largest and most influential ministries in the world, and that did not happen by accident. Organizers trace it to seeds of belief planted at a particular point in the nation’s history. As Scripture says, there is a time to plant and a time to harvest, and Nigeria’s spiritual growth followed that pattern.
The 1970s: a youth awakening. In the early 1970s, a wave of spiritual renewal spread among young Nigerians, who spoke openly about being “born again.” The Scripture Union (SU) movement was at the center of it. It stressed godly character and gave rise to the hope that this new-birth experience would become a moral compass for the country.
The late 1970s and 1980s: the faith message spreads. Another movement followed, associated with Kenneth Hagin’s ministry in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It reached campuses across Nigeria, including the Universities of Benin, Ibadan, Lagos and Nigeria Nsukka, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ahmadu Bello University and Ambrose Alli University, mostly through printed books. Titles such as How to Be Led by the Spirit of God, The Authority of the Believer and The Faith That Moves Mountains became required reading. Believers embraced the idea that they could hear from God directly and draw revelation from the Scriptures themselves. This was the birth of the charismatic Pentecostal movement in the country.
Leaders from that movement later built large churches in major cities around the world, grounded in long hours of prayer and meditation on God’s Word. Convention organizers believe a new planting season has come to Nigeria, and that fresh seeds must be sown for a richer harvest in the years ahead.
