All references to El Shaddai reveal God as the One who is mighty and faithful to fulfill every word He speaks. Whatever He declares surely comes to pass.
The first mention of El Shaddai is found in Genesis 17, when Abram was ninety-nine years old. The Lord appeared to him and said, “I am God Almighty; walk before me faithfully and be blameless. Then I will make my covenant between me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.” This was the covenant God established with Abraham, and Abraham responded in reverence and faith.
Among Christians today, the most common understanding of Shaddai is “Mighty,” making El Shaddai mean God Almighty. It speaks of God’s unlimited power, His ability to keep His promises, and His strength to accomplish the impossible.
